Essay about My Philosophy of Education - 1380 Words

My Philosophy of Education There are all different kinds of students and each of them deserve the chance at a fulfilling education that improves their self - esteem and self - efficiency in the world. Every child deserves a teacher that is fair and understanding of the different ability levels of each student in their classroom. This is my philosophy of education. In preparing to become a teacher who truly tries to understand the vast differences between children, I want to address the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purposes of public education, the methods of teaching, and the curriculum area that I am studying. First, I believe Rousseau?s theory of people being born with a blank slate. Children are not good or†¦show more content†¦Memorization does not really indicate that something is learned except for only a short while. There was a time for a few short days that I knew the entire Gettysburg Address, but after I said it in class, it was gone in a few hours. I can still say part of it, but that is because I have heard ?Fore score and seven years ago thousands of time before. This is where experience comes in, if I said the Gettysburg Address everyday for the rest of my life, that would be an experience, not a one-time memorization. I personally am a relative learner. I have to experience or do something before I can learn a difficult concept really well. If I do experiments, sing a song, coloring activities, or some dramatization, I will learn better than if just read it and have to memorize it. I believe that I how a lot of students need to learn. Although there are stud ents who can read something one time, and get it. When it comes too absolute knowledge mathematics comes to mind. There is a formula for almost everything that you do in math, and whether you get that process or not, it will always be true; it does not depend on the person, place, or time. It is always true. Absolute knowledge is hard for many students to grasp because most of it is abstract there is not always a concrete thing to put in front of student to make them understand the concept you are trying to teach them. Beowulf: First Literary Superhero Essay Beowulf was the first literary super hero. Like the common day superman, Beowulf has ordinary human characteristics, as well as superhuman powers. Like the Anglo-Saxons of Beowulfs time, he is boastful, manly, and willing to outdo his fellow neighbor. The only difference between him and the rest of the Anglo- Saxons is that he possesses extreme amounts of physical power. Grendel, the antagonist of the story, was feared by all men. He ate humans and attacked them in their sleep. Many men had attempted to kill Grendel, but until Beowulf, no man had ever succeeded. so Grendel ruled, fought with the righteous, One against many and won. ..(line 81,82). Despite the probability of Beowulfs death against Grendel, he still insists on attacking him and defeating him. Beowulf kills Grendel in an unusual way. Rather than attacking him with a sword like every other Geat, he grabs onto Grendels arm and squeezes until the torture is unbearable. He ate humans and attacked them in their sleep. Many men had attempted to kill Grendel, but until Beowulf, no man had ever succeeded. so Grendel ruled, fought with the righteous, One against many and won. ..(line 81,82). Before, Unferth had taunted Beowulf about his foolish bravery but when he and all the rest of the Geats saw that Beowulfs strength and power were worth boasting about, they were humbled. To prove Beowulf was powerful, he hung Grendels arm, claw, and shoulders from the rafters of the meeting hall. No Dane doubted The victory, for the proof, hanging high From the rafters where Beowulf had hung it, was the monsters Arm, claw and shoulder and all.(line 485-488) Had Beowulf attacked Grendel with a sword, the events would not have turned out the same. Many men before Beowulf had attacked Grendel with a sword and all with no effect to Grendel. If Beowulf had used a sword instead of his bare hands to kill Grendel, not only would Grendel have survived but the brawl would not have such a significance in the history of the Geats. Beowulf would not seem as brave, and even if Beowulf had died, the battle would not have been as legendary. There would be no arm, shoulder, or claw to symbolize Grendels death or stunned crowds to admire Beowulfs courage. Beowulfs quest to conquer Grendel was successful, not only did he prove to everyone that he was a true man but he conquered one of the most feared creatures of the time. Beowulfs life after Grendels death was blessed and his courageous acts from then and afterwards reached legendary heights. English .
